I drive a focus, so my spare dash space is pretty limited, especially in places I can easily reach. Already having a GPS mounted on the dash, I was having a hard time finding the right kind of mount, and especially one that didn't cost a fortune. Even with my somewhat weird, rubber cup-lined cup holder, I was able to make this work like a charm. It holds my 3GS firmly enough that I can put my phone in and use a single hand to plug the charger into the bottom without it slipping, but it is not terribly difficult to get the phone in and out.
